Food Service 2022-23

Welcome back to another great year at Pinewood and Sierra Ridge!  The Pollock Pines Food Service Team is very excited about the upcoming year.  Each day our Food Service Team works to help our children learn by providing nutritious and tasty food for them.  Our team prepares meals for our students every day that not only taste wonderful, but also meet all the strict state and federal safety and nutrition guidelines.  Our team takes pride in cooking and preparing meals that kids will like and want to eat while at the same time providing all the vitamins and dietary requirements they need.

We are pleased to be able to provide a breakfast and a lunch meal to each student, each school day, at no charge to the families!  Beginning in School Year 2022–23, California will become the first state to implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for all school children. California’s Universal Meals Program is designed to build on the foundations of the federal National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP).

One unintended result of providing free meal service to students, is that we have seen a decrease in the number of verified students that would normally qualify for free or reduced- price meals.  Much of the funding for our school is predicated on the demographics of our student population, and recognizing those students who would qualify for free or reduced meal price status helps the district to maximize funding and provide additional services to our children.  Every student with qualifying household income, learning English, or in foster care generates additional funding for our schools. In districts where at least 55% of students fall into these categories, they receive even more funding.  In Pollock Pines Elementary School District, these funds are given to each school to increase and improve services for these students. Completing the Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals ensures your school receives all available funds.

Please submit an Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals form for the 2022-23 school year, as you may qualify for additional free or discounted services.

We appreciate you taking the time to complete this form, to help us maximize the resources we are able to provide services to our students.

Silver Fork Marmots

At Silver Fork we believe that "Good things come in small packages!" Silver Fork school, with a roster of  8-10 students for the  school year, Kindergarten through 8th grade, is one of the few remaining one-room schoolhouses in California. Despite our small size we have big goals for our students. We have computers for every student and use up-to-date software. Our text books are current, and our library continues to add new books of every type. Our affiliation with the Pollock Pines School District provides greater opportunities for our students.

Without a doubt, education has changed a great deal since the "Little House on the Prairie" days. The wholesome atmosphere that a small school affords has stayed the same. We like that!
