The Silver Fork School District was formed in 1948. The first class consisted of six boys. The first teacher, Mrs. Irma Warren, held temporary classes in a cabin at the old resort at Eagle Rock.

A short time later, a classroom building was donated by Harvey West. The building, a former "line shack", having been transformed into a classroom for the Sacramento Box Company employees' children at China Flat, was transported to Silver Fork on a log truck. Two outhouses were added and classes were moved to the new site. This building was later relocated onto the present school property. Bathrooms, a storage room and a porch were added. The present school building was approved by the Office of the State Architect in June, 1954. The building was completed in 1955.

Our school currently houses 17 students in grades K through 8. We have one full time teacher, one secretary/aide, one bus driver/aide, one part-time math specialist, one custodian, and one technology support person. Our Staff

Silver Fork Marmots

At Silver Fork we believe that "Good things come in small packages!" Silver Fork school, with a roster of just 17 students for the 2008-2009 school year, Kindergarten through 8th grade, is one of the few remaining one-room schoolhouses in California. Despite our small size we have big goals for our students. We have computers for every student and use up-to-date software. Our text books are current, and our library continues to add new books of every type. In 2004 we were one of the winners of the "Governor's Reading Award Program". We are all very proud of this accomplishment. Our affiliation with the Pollock Pines School District provides greater opportunities for our students.

Without a doubt, education has changed a great deal since the "Little House on the Prairie" days. The wholesome atmosphere that a small school affords has stayed the same. We like that!
