Dear Pollock Pines Families,

The District is considering changes to the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school calendars.  The basic structure of the calendars will remain the same, such as the first and last day of school.

The District is considering moving the Minimum Days/Early Release Days for the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school years from every other Monday to every Wednesday of the month.  The release time for these days will changed to 1:00PM for Pinewood Elementary and 1:15PM for Sierra Ridge Middle School.

The District is considering this change to establish more consistency in the calendar and to allow for additional collaboration for staff to plan, disaggregate student data, and participate in consistent and ongoing professional development.  The proposed calendars will also include the dates for Parent/Teacher conferences, Trimester end dates and the California State testing dates.

The Draft calendars will be sent home with each of the schools newsletters and will be available for viewing on the district website.  The calendars will be on the March 14, 2017 Pollock Pines School Board agenda for approval by the School Board.

If you have questions, regarding the proposed calendars please feel free to contact me at 530-644-5416.

Respectfully,

Pat Atkins

Superintendent

New Immunization Requirements for 2016

Under a new law known as SB 277, beginning January 1, 2016 exemptions based on personal beliefs, including religious beliefs, are no longer an option for the vaccines that are currently required for entry into child care or school in California.  Most families will not be affected by the new law because their children have received all required vaccinations. Personal beliefs exemptions on file for a child already attending child care or school will remain valid until the child reaches the next immunization checkpoint at kindergarten (including transitional kindergarten) or 7th grade.

  • Documentation of required immunizations must be submitted to the school before the student is allowed to attend class.
  • Parents/guardians of Medically Exempt students must submit a Medical Exemption letter from a licensed physician (M.D. or D.O.) and provide documentation of immunizations which have been received.

For more information about SB 277, please see the Frequently Asked Questions available at: http://www.shotsforschool.org/laws/sb277faq/.

For more information about school immunization requirements and resources, please visit the California Department of Public Health’s website at www.shotsforschool.org, or contact the El Dorado County Immunization Assistance Program at 621-6100.
